Papertrey Ink Coasters - Make It Monday

Time for another entry into this week's Papertrey Ink's Make it Monday Challenge.

This week we were challenged to use Papertrey Ink's coasters in a project. I cut my coaster with a PTI mat stack die and ran it through my cuttlebug. I used Tim Holtz Vintage Photo and Antique linen ink to color and distress the coaster giving it a wood tone. I then used PTI's woodgrain impression plate to give it texture. The papers and embellishments are from Crate Paper. The chipboard letter is by Pink Paislee. The sentiment is from the Happy Day stamp set by PTI.

Heart Carved in Wood Card

I whipped up this card today using the "letterpress" technique and my Papertrey Ink Woodgrain Impression Plate. I ran my inkpad over the top of the plate and then ran it through my cuttlebug. I then took the large tag from Tag-Its #11 and hand cut the heart out of the center. I just added a few initials and a pin to complete the look.

Papertrey Ink Pinterest Challenge

So today Papertrey Ink announced that they are on Pinterest!! I love that site, but have myself on a strict surfing time limit - I do have a house to clean, laundry to do, etc. :) So, today they are having a contest that asks us to take a picture off of pinterest and use it as inspiration.

I found this picture and used it along with Maile Belles' card that can be found here.

Here is my project.

I used PTI's Mat Stack 5 die and Houndstooth background stamp. I placed different ink colors all over the stamp and left some areas blank in order to show a pattern similar to the inspiration photo. If I am being honest, I would have liked the 3 and 6 to be closer together, but I guess you can't have everything (and I didn't have enough time to go back to the beginning :) ).

Crate Paper Birthday Card

I had a lot of fun with this since it was something that I wouldn't normally try. As you can see, my take on this is VERY similar to the one shown in the video by Betsy. I loved it so much, I just couldn't get it out of my mind.

Papertrey Ink Make It Monday Challege

This is my entry in this week's Papertrey Ink Make It Monday Challenge. This week we get to pick any technique from the last year and use it to create a project. I chose to use the technique shown in Make It Monday #37: Layered Mats & Frames.

Ok, I admit it, I am pretty obsessed with chevrons right now. You can just look at my blog to see that. I have had this background idea in my head and was so excited to finally create it. I took grey and white card stock and created multiple die cuts using PTI's Rickrack Border Die. I alternated the colors and adhered the strips to a grey card base to create a chevron effect. I then embellished it using a frame made from Mat Stack 4, Happy Day die and the Happy Day coordinating stamp set. The felt flowers were made using Pure Poppy felt. I have a feeling that I will be making many more cards like this using the Rickrack Border die. I love the clean and simple lines!

Thank You Flower Pot

I made this flower pot thank you for a girlfriend of mine. I think that it turned out so cute. You can find the tutorial here. I didn't use the cricut for it, but I did use some cute flowers and buttons from my stash. This truly was a quick and easy project.

Disneyland Mini Photo Book

Cupcake Wrapper Tutorial Using the Cricut and Border Punches

This morning, while I was thinking about my husband's birthday next week and what I was going to do, this idea popped into my head. Can I take the cupcake wrapper that is on my Easter Mini Cricut Cartridge and my border punches to change the look of it? Guess what???? I can! I am so excited about this and my mind is racing with all of the possibilities out there. Too bad I only have the three border punches that I show in the video....just one more thing to add to my list. :)

Envelope Tutorial for Candy Mold Cards

Wilton Candy Mold Card Tutorial

Simple and Easy Valentine Flower Lollipops

I saw this project in Scrapbooks etc. magazine and thought that they would be quick and easy to make for my daughter's second grade class. I made 24 of them in under an hour. Not too bad.

What I Did:
I cut the circle out at 1 1/2" and the scalloped circle at 1 3/4" on my cricut (using the auto fill function) with the Storybook Font cartridge. I stamped my image on the front white circle using the Whoo Loves You stamp set from Hero Arts. On the back circle, I stamped a heart and my daughter signed her name beneath it. I used my ATG gun to tape the circles together and onto the lollipop (bought in a bag of 24 at Target). Last but not least, I tied some ribbon onto the lollipop stick and secured it into place with some Fabri-Tac glue. Simple and cute!

Cupcake Card with Candy

Hey everyone. I have been wanting to make one of these cards for a while and when I saw this thread on the cricut message board, I realized that I had some of these candy molds (collecting dust!!) in my stash and had to use them right away.

There is a great video on how to make these cards here. The only real difference is that I used Wilton's truffle candy molds to do the "cherry" on top of the cupcake instead of the cup used in the video. If you use your Michaels coupon, you can get 14 of these cups for a little over a $1.

What I did:
I cut a 1 1/4" circle out of the card, using the center point function on my cricut, to put the candy cup into place. I used mini M&Ms to fill it. The cupcake is cut at 5" using the Sweet Treats cricut cartridge. I ran the "frosting" through my cuttlebug using the d'vine swirl embossing folder. The tag is cut at 1 1/4" using the George and Basic Shapes cricut cartridge. The birthday wishes stamp is from Mixed Messages that I bought at Papertreyink.

I already know that I am going to be making a lot more of these in the future. If you make some, I would love to see the pictures!!

Exploding Giftcard Holder / Box

While I was searching for a cute way to wrap a giftcard for a friend's upcoming birthday, I came across this thing called an exploding gift box. Why haven't I heard of these before?!?! They are just too cute. Unfortunately I can't remember where I first saw them to give the person credit (if anyone knows, let me know).

The boxes I saw weren't large enough to hold a giftcard, so after doing some math, this is what I came up with.

Instructions:
If you are using one sided paper, you will need five 12" x 12" sheets, if you are using double sided paper, you will need four 12" x 12" sheets. The paper I used is one sided, so I used 5 sheets.

You will need one sheet for the lid. Cut it to 7" x 7". Then score the sheet 1 1/2" from each side and diagonal at the corners. See picture below.

Fold the corners and lid as show and adhere the corners with tape to make the box lid.

You will need three to four sheets for the box.
Cut the sheet that will show on the outside of the box to 11 2/8" x 11 2/8". Then score the sheet 3 3/4" from each side and cut out the corner squares. If you have one sided paper, cut another sheet to these exact dimensions (you will adhere these two sheets to the back of each other since they will be visible to the outside and inside of the box). Cut the second sheet to 10 7/8" x 10 7/8". Score the sheet 3 5/8" from each side and cut out the corner squares. Cut the third sheet (this one will show the most when the box is open) to 10 1/2" x 10 1/2". Score 3 1/2" from each side and cut out the corner squares. See picture below.

Round the corners of the box layers if desired with a corner punch. This is what your box layers should look like.

With the largest box layer on the bottom (the color showing on the outside of the box should be face down), place adhesive onto the back side of the center square on your second layer and affix it to the center square of the first layer. Repeat this process for the third layer and attach it to the second layer. Affix your giftcard to the center square of the third layer and embellish as desired. Place the lid on your "box" and you are done.

Paper: BasicGrey Urban Prairie paper pad

Sweet Treats Cricut cartridge: Happy Birthday cut at 1 1/4", cake stand at 1", cupcake at 1 1/4"

George and Basic Shapes Cricut cartridge: flower emellishments cut at 1" and 1 1/4"

Tinkerbell Journal

While I was at Michaels last week I also found this journal in the dollar bin. My youngest daughter was invited to a Tinkerbell Party that will be in a few weeks and I thought that I could turn this into a cute gift for a soon to be 5 year old. It is a really quick and simple project.

Instructions:
Cut out a piece of white cardstock at 1 7/8" x 1 1/4" and adhere it over the bird in the frame on the front of the journal cover. Cut out the letters to adhere to the cardstock . Embellish as desired. Told you it was quick and easy!!!!

Materials:
Name: Storybook Font Cricut cartridge cut at 1 3/4"
Tinkerbell: Tinkerbell and Friends Cricut cartridge cut at 2"
Tinkerbell Title: Tinkerbell and Friends Cricut cartridge cut at 1 1/4"
Paper: DCWV Fun in the Sun Summer Glitter Mat Stack for Tinkerbell's wings and the Tinkerbell title

Valentine Notepad and Pencil Set

My kids love to write with and on anything small, so when I saw this notepad and colored pencil set in the Michaels dollar bin last week, I knew just what to do with them. Here is the before....

And the after, using the left over paper I had from the valentine mailboxes in my previous post.

Instructions:

Pencil Set-
Cut a strip of paper 1 1/8" x 4" to cover the outside lid of the pencil set. Cut a strip of paper 2 3/4" x 4" to cover the body of the pencil set. Be sure to consider any pattern you may have on your paper and how you want it to look once you tape it onto the pencil case. Place your adhesive of choice (Mono, double sided tape, ATG, etc) onto the back of the paper and wrap it around the lid and body of the case. Add a ribbon 4" long onto the top and botton edges (I use Fabri-Tac to adhere my ribbon). Tie a knot in another piece of ribbon and cut to desired length to create a "bow". Adhere the "bow" to the top of the lid with Fabri-Tac.

Notepad-
Cut a strip of paper 12" x 2 1/2" to adhere to the outside and line the inside of the notepad cover. Be sure to consider any pattern you may have on your paper and how you want it to look once you tape it onto the notepad cover. Use a corner punch to round the two corners of your paper that will show on the front of the notepad if desired. Place your adhesive of choice onto the back of the paper and wrap it around the outside and line the inside of the notepad cover. Embellish as desired.

Materials:

Paper - Target dollar bin
Notepad and Pencil Set - Michaels dollar bin
Initial - Storybook Font Cricut cartridge at 1 1/4"
Ribbon - scraps from my collection

Target Mailboxes

Here is a picture of some white mailboxes that I made for my 7 year old (affectionately known as "Peat") and 4 year old (known as "Repeat" - loves to copy and be like her big sister) for Valentine's Day. Gotta love that Target dollar bin!!!

Instructions:
Cut a piece of 12" x 12" paper into 4" x 12" for the main body - place the remaining paper aside. Wrap the 4" x 12" piece around the mailbox so that the paper seam is on the bottom of the mailbox and press lightly on the base of the flag - enough to leave a small indentation on your paper. Use a 1/2" circle punch and punch where the indentation on the paper is. Use your scissors and cut a small seam from the edge of the paper to the center edge of the punched out circle. Use double sided tape to secure the paper to the mailbox. Trace the lid of the mailbox onto the remaining paper and cut out. Affix this with double sided tape as well. Embellish with stickers and ribbons as you like.

Materials Used:
Mailbox, Paper & Stickers: dollar bin Target
Scalloped Circle and Circle on Flag: black and white cardstock cut from Storybook Cricut Cartridge at 2" and 1 3/4" respectively
Heart on front of Mailbox: black and white cardstock cut from George and Basic Shapes Cricut Cartridge at 2 3/4"
Ribbon: scraps from my collection
Stamps: Whoo loves you? by Hero Arts

I picked my name (after the first two I liked were already taken ;-) ), did some internet research on how to start one of these things, and here we are. I should have done this a long time ago - I never knew how easy it was! I hope that this will be a great place to share ideas and have fun.
